More Than an “Ouchie” – No Marathon for Me

I don’t have much energy or pizzazz for this post. Not a fun day.

In the simplest of terms, today I went here:

BCSM-Black-and-White-Bitmap

Then here:

boulderhospital

For this:

mri

Where I had this:

panickattack

And was given these:

crutches

Because I have this (stress fracture femur/femoral neck):

femoralneck

So, goodbye to this for Sunday:

DEN_10_CMYK-300x145

Four months of hard training down this:

TOILETSEAT1

Yes, Mike, it was more than an “ouchie.”

I don’t have to tell you the gory details of devastation, tears and frustration. All you guys get it. Thank you for getting it.

That’s all I got.

SUAR

  1. Oh, Beth. I am so sorry to hear that. I know how frustrating that is.

How long are you on the crutches for? When can you run again?

  2. Bummer. Try to remember that everything is perfect. Try not to spend to much time in the past or future thinking about it. Just enjoy.

  7. Oh no Beth! I sooo wish this were not the case.

    It SUCKS big time -
    It isn't fair -
Why did this happen to you

Lot's of questions - but NO answers

Obviously this isn't anything to mess with - heck you want to still be running when you are a grama . . . . right? I know I do!

Do what you have to do - cry - be depressed - get mad - drink a bottle of wine . . . and then pick yourself up and focus on getting better!

I will be thinking of you ;-)

  8. I'm so, so sorry. Take excellent care of yourself. Am sending hugs your way.

    ReplyDelete
  9. You're a rock star - you ran with Dean! Take care of yourself and you'll be back out there in no time.

    ReplyDelete
  10. that seriously sucks.

    I'm sorry. : (

  11. AWW! That seriously sucks! There will be another marathon just sucks it won't be this one! I wish I had encouraging words for you. Chin up!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Oh shit Beth; I am SO VERY sorry. You know I get it, I do. I have tears in my eyes for you right now.

Ok, we are 0-2 on fall marathons girl. I don't think we should sign up for any more, let's just go for the fall ones. You have Boston ahead of you, heal quickly my friend!!!!

We'll drown our fall marathon sorrows with beer on Saturday.

PS-That CT scanner is my arch nemesis, I hate those things.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Sorry to hear that your out. I believe blogger Dr. Tri was out of commission due to the same injury. You may want to consult with her. I believe she had surgery to correct it. Best of luck to you and feel better.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Worst news ever. Hope you get to feeling better. There will always be another marathon.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I meant let's just go for the spring marathons. Hell I'm on my second glass of wine. The benefits of no real training.

    ReplyDelete
  16. ((hugs)) ugh. that is such a major bummer! but i have faith that you will recover and be so much stronger for it. sending healing vibes you way :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. I am really sorry for your news. I know you will get back on track just like last time.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think there are few words that will make you feel better about this situation. But I am sorry. I feel the pain for you.
Rest well. Heal quickly. Come back stronger. And pound the streets of Boston with a vengeance (and a few dumps, if you so desire).

    ReplyDelete
  19. so so so so sorry to hear this.

my running heart aches for you.

  21. OMG. I am so sorry to read this. My heart aches for you... It is so disappointing/crushing to put in all that hard work and then not get to do the actual race. :( I am so so so sorry. But good for you for actually listening to your body and going in to get it checked out. I think alot of us runners try to pretend like everything is ok because God forbid if we had to miss a race due to a injury...

Again, so so so so bummed for you. :(

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm so sorry to hear the news. I'm hoping for a speedy recovery for you.

    ReplyDelete
  23. What a huge bummer. It def. sucks the big one.

    ReplyDelete
  24. IT REALLY SUCKS!! that being said...I'm really glad you found it before you had a complete break and had necrosis of the femoral head and had to have a hip replacement. hugs and healing thoughts your way:(

    ReplyDelete
  25. Beth, I am so sorry! Please look more in deep at this. You probably have some calcium absorbtion issues, bc you did not overtrain, or did too much speed work. Also, you may want to read RUnning Sane's blog (google it) as she has just recovered from a femural stress fracture and she might be able to help out (she is very very nice!). Good luck, I can only imagine how devastating this is right now! Keep us posted and let us help. We care for you, Beth!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh, man... I am SO SORRY. Rest up, and hope you heal very soon!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. nooooooo. sending healing vibes your way!

    ReplyDelete
  28. oh no...I"m sorry to hear that. :( I hope it heals quickly. * lot's of hugs *

  29. Aw, shit, Beth. That just sucks. I am sooooo sorry.

    Double damn.

    ReplyDelete
  30. well that bites the big one. I'm really sorry to hear this. I hope you heal very quickly and are pooping behind trees again in no time.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Oh dammit! I DO know this devastation very well!!! Wasn't runner then...but I destroyed my knee in 2008...tibial plateau fracture, torn ACL, torn meniscus....but it ultimately what brought me TO running!!!
I had a non walking 11 month old and crutches for 4 months!!!! You will survive but there will b dark days!!! I pray for patience for you

    I was

  32. I am so bummed for you and glad you have an amazing sense of humor that will help you deal with this.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh, Beth. I'm so so so sorry.

But just think how rested you'll be for Boston. Right?

    *sigh*

    ReplyDelete
  34. OH no! Hope you heal up quickly and you get to lace on those running shoes soon.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I am so sorry...you have worked so hard....take this time to heal up so that you'll be ready for Boston!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I am weeping for you - do you want to share my prozac IV???? Try to keep your chin up - what are you able to do, activity-wise?
    K

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm so sorry too! Damn!! I was getting hyped for you. Take care of yourself and Boston will be that much better! Not that you want to hear it, but this will make you stronger. Praying for your speedy recovery.

    ReplyDelete
  38. So sorry Beth. Hope you heal quickly.

Just wanted to let you know that you are a great inspiration to me. I started running about an year ago and check your blog very regularly for laughs and encouragement.

Sending you good vibes, my friend.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ugh, I'm so sorry Beth. I hope the recovery is speedy.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Just like everything this too shall pass and you will be back to being your diva self again. Wishing you speedy recovery.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Beth, you will heal fast. You are fit, strong and healthy. You will come out of it better than you can possibly imagine because you are a fighter and I know you will inspire us all.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Oh Beth, I am so sorry! I have been there! 9 years ago..It was my trochanter bone. Lots of tears and frustration. Hope you feel better soon.

    ReplyDelete
  43. BARF BARF BARF.
I agree with the commenter who said that my heart hurts over this. And the one who said you have an incredible spirit. This is a horrible thing to happen to any runner, and to you specifically because you give us all so much motivation. But if anyone can heal from this--both physically and emotionally--it's you. Best of luck with your recovery, Beth. You have so much strength behind you!! And I'm not just talkin' about the poo!

    ReplyDelete
  44. So sorry to hear that. That is the constant fear we all have after all the time put in training. You have realized my fears and for that I am so sorry.

Even Dean has had to not run a race because of injury. I don't know this for a fact..... but I thought it would make you feel better :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. lurker uncloaking - THAT SUCKS BALLS!!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I am SO sorry. I have been there too - stress fractures in my shins and one in my foot (4 in 5 years). Best of luck in your recovery, I know how frustrating it is. Sending good thoughts your way.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Craptacular news ... very sorry to hear it.

Heal quickly ... we need you out there running and making us laugh.

    ReplyDelete
  48. AWKKKKK!!! Tara and I were just discussing you while we were swimming laps tonight (can you swim laps? We should find a place to swim and then drink margaritas!). I am VERY sorry, Beth. I so understand what you're feeling right now.

Did you ever follow Jenn's (runningsane I think) blog? She was the massive mileage chick from MN who never had an injury and then wham, got that exact same stress fracture you have. Maybe you could talk to her about what she did ... email me if you want her address.

Hang in there girl. Get that hip rested so that come Apri 18th, you ROCK Beantown!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. So sorry, Beth! You are such an inspiration to me every day. I hope you heal quickly...your hip and your heart. It just sucks so much and is so unfair but I know that you'll come through this stronger somehow.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Oh no :-(.. My heart sank a little when I read the title of the post and I clicked on it hoping to find out it was a cruel joke or something.

Sending quick healing vibes your way.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Shit! And shit again.
I'm so bummed for you. Let's wallow in pity right now. But be ready next week, because we are all going to force you to heal and be ready to jump into training for Boston.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh my word!! I'm sick for you! So sorry!

    ReplyDelete
  53. My heart sank for you just reading this. I am so sorry, there's nothing else to say...

    ReplyDelete
  54. So sorry for your bad news. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'm soo sorry to hear the bad news!! I'll pray for a speedy recovery for you!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Oh Girlie I'm soooo sorry!!!!!!! I hope you recover soon! get better and get strong and you'll be right back at it.

    Get well!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Oh Beth. I am so sorry - totally just teared up. What a bum, bum deal. Love and hugs and prayers thrown in there too. :(

    ReplyDelete
  58. I can only reiterate what everyone else has already said, but I'm am truly so sorry you have to go through this :( thinking of you and hope you have a speedy recovery!

    ReplyDelete
  59. I am so very sorry to hear this. It's crazy! How could this happen the week before!?!?!

    ReplyDelete
  60. So sorry about the news. Of course we all know and feel your heartache and anger and frustration. But we also know that it will pass and you will be able ton take all of that energy and put it into your recovery so you can come back faster and stronger. Stay tough!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Fudgemonkeys. I am so sorry. This just bites.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I am so sorry. That sucks big time.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Sorry,I know how much not running sucks!

    ReplyDelete
  64. So sorry. That royally sucks. I often think about what would happen if I got injured... I don't think I can truly understand until it has happened. I'm sorry.

You still rock and you still jumped out of an airplane, so I know you'll be back in form soon enough, although I'm sure that doesn't help anything right now.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Oh that just sucks! I am so sorry and my heart aches for you...

    ReplyDelete
  66. I am so sorry! I am glad you listen to your instincts and went to the dr. I hope you heal quickly!!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Oh what a bummer! I was really looking forward to seeing you again. Maybe at another race. You'll be up and running in no time. For now, relax and enjoy some time with your family.

    ReplyDelete
  68. So sorry to hear. I type this with my broken foot up on my desk. These things do suck. I think its perfectly healthy to get pissed off, sad, angry, etc.

I tell myself this every time I "boot" past the treadmills and see a runner go by: this too shall pass.

    ReplyDelete
  69. This sucks, and I'm so sorry it's this bad.

Knowing that you will bounce back won't make the waiting any easier, but you are tough as nails, and that will get you through.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Dislike. This sucks! The rest and rehab will suck no doubt but you are strong and will get through this.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I am without words; you will get through this though and you will be stronger.

    ReplyDelete
  72. OMG this sucks so hard that it blows.

I'm so sorry to hear that. Would it make you feel any better that I'm so tired I actually wrote "i'm so hard to hear that" at first? No?

Seriously, though, that is terrible and I hope you have a speedy recovery! And drink lots of wine.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Suuuuuuuuuuccckkk!! Uggghh, I am beyond sorry. This blows. I've been to each of those facilities for both the MRI and the panic attack and my heart goes out to you. Broken Boulder Marathoners, UNITE! I'd totally buy you a beer as we commiserate together. Hang in there SUAR, ain't no injury gonna tear you down.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Oh my god!!! I am sooo sorry and just saddened for you. If there is anything good that could come out of this it's that you found out BEFORE the marathon. I don't even know what to say, but you will get through this!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Sorry, Sweet Girl. I really don't have anything to say but I wish I could give you a huge hug and a glass of wine.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Well that's unfortunate but you could always go the Rosie Ruiz route and just run the last half mile of the marathon and pretend to be the winner. It would make for an exciting blog post.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Words cannot express how shitty this is. Seriously - I want to make a smart assed comment but I just don't have it in me.

Take care of yourself. Isn't that why you had kids? To take care of you when you were either injured or senile?

    ReplyDelete
  78. oh, so sorry. ;( not good at all or fun. wah.

take care of yourself. what's the recovery of this? ...i'm hoping you can set sights on boston...;)

    ReplyDelete
  79. Beth, I'm so sorry!! Oh my goodness! That seriously LOOKS painful so I can't imagine the pain you're actually in! I'm sorry you'll be missing your race! :( How long do you have to be on the crutches and resting without running?! I'm sure it'll seem like forever, but you can hang in there! **HUGS**

    ReplyDelete
  80. Oh no! That's terrible news. I'm really sorry to hear it. I hope you recover quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  81. We've all been there, and we know how crappy this is.

This is just really bad timing. Rest up, and hope you recover soon and well.

The training has made you fitter and stronger for when you get back to it.

    Good luck.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Really! Really! Really sucks! Look after yourself and get well soon.

    ReplyDelete
  83. So, so sorry to hear this. Better to find out now though than during the marathon when permanent damage could have happened.

    Take care, you.

    ReplyDelete
  84. So, so sorry Beth. Sending super-healing thoughts your way.

    ReplyDelete
  85. That totally bites! Hang in there and I hope you recover quickly!

    ReplyDelete
  86. Been there, done that. Absolute suckage. There is really not much else one can say.

    ReplyDelete
  87. That is just crap! Take care, hang in there.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Hope you have a speedy recovery. Sorry to hear about this news. Hang in there!

    ReplyDelete
  89. I'm sorry to hear about your injury. I can definitely relate though. I've had 2 femoral neck stress fractures, the first when I was 18 (I'm now 27) which resulted in getting 3 pins in my hip. My doc told me to never run competitively again. In the past 9 years since then, I've run numerous 5Ks (including running collegiate xc for 4 yrs), 4 half marathons, and am running my 5th marathon on Sunday. I also ran Boston in 2009. You will be stronger from this & you're going to have that much more motivation to kill Boston in 2011. Good luck with your recovery, wishing you all the best!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Oh poop. And I don't mean it in the fun way. So bummed for you. Beyond bummed.
You know you'll be back stronger, faster and more awesome than ever but I know that is no consolation for you now. Big healing hugs girl!

    ReplyDelete
  91. I have been following your blog for awhile... and all I can think of is a big "CRAP!". I'm sorry :(:(

    ReplyDelete
  92. NOOOOOooo! That sucks big time...so sorry to read this. Yes, we know you'll be back stronger than ever and that you'll rock Boston...but for now, it just, well, sucks :( Sending healing vibes your way ((()))

    ReplyDelete
  93. Been reading your blog for a while now, never commented before. I'm really ,really sorry to hear this, totally sucks. We're all wishing you a speedy recovery.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Really sorry to hear that. So frustrating when you've put in all the time and you really WANT to be out there. Will you be able to swim or bike in the meantime?

    ReplyDelete
  95. Ugh.
    That sucks.
I'm sorry you are in 'that place' again.

    ReplyDelete
  96. That really sucks...Hang in....

    ReplyDelete
  97. The sucks big time.....So sorry to hear about this. Stay strong and use the next couple of weeks to rest and then when you can, start doing some cross training. That helps so much and will make you a better runner in the long run (pun intended). Sending healing vibes your way.

    ReplyDelete
  98. wow - I'm so sorry...what a complete and total bummer. Take care of yourself and keep your terrific sense of humor.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Really sorry to hear this. Hope you heal quickly. Thanks for being such an awesome blogger.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Oh Beth. What a heartache. FrayedLaces (Laura) had a ramus (pelvis) fracture (complete -started as stress and ended up as 2 complete) after her Honu marathon - she blogged her recovery and it might be helpful to read. I've been injured off and on all year and have had to give up 2 marathons thus far - the bicentennial (Mexico) in the capital (Mexico City) which was The Event of the Year and I think I know some of your pain. Grieve and heal.

    ReplyDelete
  101. sucks. totally sucks. No other way to put it. Follow the dr's orders I guess. Rest up. Relax a bit. Speedy recovery!

    ReplyDelete
  102. I'm so very sorry to hear this, I know what a disappointment it is. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

    ReplyDelete
  103. Blah that blows! I hope you heal up quickly!

    ReplyDelete
  104. I'm so sorry for you! Thank God you had this checked out. I pray for a quick recovery and super fast healing. REMEMBER this is only temporary!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Totally bummed out for you! Get some rest, Beth, and let your body heal. You'll be back knocking out those marathons soon! Prayers for a fast and complete full recovery winging their way out for you.

Run on - once you're healed, that is.

    ReplyDelete
  106. That royally sucks.
HUGS. Take the time to get better and come back strong.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I am so, so disappointed for you. I'm also really glad you got it checked out rather than run on it and make it worse.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I specifically follow your blog BECAUSE you are so motivating. You know when you push it and when to back off.

Rest up - Recover. I'm sure something good will come from this little side track.

    ReplyDelete
  109. I'm so sad for you. Thank goodness you didn't run and cause a break! I think you've said it before but it takes a MUCH tougher athlete to sit out of a race they were fully prepared for than to run a race in pain. We've all ran with and through lots of different pains. Good for you for recognizing when to say when. I'll pray for a speedy recovery!

    ReplyDelete
  110. that absolutely blows, sorry to hear about it.
i guess at least you have tons of time to rest up before boston. but it still mega sucks. mike, bite it.

    ReplyDelete
  111. That sucks!!! Rest up and let it heal..you'll be stronger for it later. as hard as it is, better to sit this out than Boston right? :) sending you healing thoughts

    ReplyDelete
  112. totally effing blows!!

    sorry mama!!

you may not know me and you are a way more awesome runner but you have inspired me to just SUAR!!

    THANKS!!

I will run(slowly) for you this Sunday during my first half!!

    xoxo & MUCH LOVE,

    ReplyDelete
  113. Get well soon! And please don't take this wrong, but having walked out a number of races because of hurting myself DURING races, with no symptoms leading up to the injuries, it makes me feel a little less alone. I thought I was the only one this happened to. But guess what! Healed bone is stronger than bone that has never been broken. Seriously. It will be OK.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Oh man, that is not good news at all. I am so sorry. It was a good decision to go and get it checked out and now you know what it is and how to deal with it.

A wise woman once said: "Do the very best that you can and then cut yourself some slack when things don’t go the way you expected. Know when to say when, but never give up. Remember that taking care of yourself/others and giving up are two completely different things."

    Take care.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Damn. Rest up. Get better so you can get back to running as soon as possible.

    ReplyDelete
  116. CRAP! I am so sorry! Rest and when you are back on your feet you can kick Boston's ass!

    ReplyDelete
  117. I just teared up reading your post, many of us have been there. You can pretend SUAR is Shut Up and Rest? Yea... not as good :(

    ReplyDelete
  118. i am so sorry. i really am. ugh, i'm reliving it all with you. i completely understand and feel your disappointment. you were so supportive of me when i was down and out and i hope you can pull from the strength you provided me. heal up fast. sending you tons of hugs.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Oh man. I'm so sorry! I hate to be terribly selfish right now, but this shows me that if a runner that is in as great shape as you're in can get injured lie this, then I really need to be working on losing weight and not stressing my body any more than I need to when running.

Now that I'm done being selfish - I'm really sorry.

(And I'm sad there wasn't a little sad face picture of you because I love your pictures)

    ReplyDelete
  120. Bummer!! Praying for your healing and patience during that process. If you need some encouragement and haven't found your way to frayedlaces.blogspot.com. You should check her out. A couple of years ago she had a stress fracture in her pelvis break completely through during her first marathon. I found her while I was trying to heal from an injury. Her humour really helped. She just finished her first Kona Ironman and it's inspiring to be reminded in our early onset of injury, we will run and compete again. Blessings.

    ReplyDelete
  121. That sucks in the worst way. I am so sorry. I know I don't have to tell you not to mess around with this - rest and follow the doctor's advice so that you can heal. Hip replacements are ugly things - don't go there!

Keep us posted on how things are going, and here's hoping that a couple of months from now you'll be well and strong and back on the road.

    ReplyDelete
  122. oh no. I am so so sorry to hear this. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery.

Hang in there - you are such an amazing inspiration to so many of us!

    ReplyDelete
  123. Well fuck. (pardon the language)

    :(

I'm so sorry to reas this.

Wish I could make you feel better, but all I will say is good luck and I hope the recovery is quick.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Oh Beth, I am sorry to hear that. I had hoped it was nothing like that. :(

Like everyone else, all I can say is "this sucks" in more ways than one.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I am so sorry to hear. Just get better and try to relax.

    ReplyDelete
  126. so so so sorry _ i know exactly how you feel. the night before my spring marathon I passed out about 4 times and was in the hospital when the race started (dehydration and exhastion)I was devistated. Especially since mine was preventable and stupid.

    I hope you heal quickly.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Beth, wow, I am really glad you went to a sports doctor who could properly diagnose the problem. Just think what might have happened if you avoided the doc and tried run through the pain on Sunday. It would not have been a good ending. I would imagine this didn't happen all at once so it was probably a good think it started to bother you when it did and not 10 miles into the marathon. On the positive side, it happened now and not before Boston. You also know for sure what the problem is and you don't have to make a decision about whether to run Sunday.

I would still encourage you to go the Denver on Sunday and still be a part of the event.

    Dana

    ReplyDelete
  128. I am so *so* sorry. I'll save all the "It'll get better", "God's will" and "At least you have your health" speeches until later.... cuz I wouldn't wanna hear it right now either.

    Rest well.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Sorry to hear this. Somewhere there is goodness even in the trying and attempting... Here's to a quick recovery!

    ReplyDelete
  130. Well... boo. Sorry - guess we can trade non-marathoning stories this month.

The one runner I know who had the same problem discusses it here: http://www.drtrirunner.com/2010/07/5-easy-steps-to-losing-the-faith-of-your-patients/

    ReplyDelete
  131. I am so sorry to hear this. Feel better.

    ReplyDelete

  133. Beth, Just came out to your blog and was completely overwhelmed by the wonderful comments you are receiving from this INCREDIBLE group of fellow runners. Just AWESOME!! While this is most certainly a major bummer, I sure hope you feel the positive energy and support you have. Here's to nothing but a speedy recovery with 2011 and Boston nothing but good times and a great journey. Thanks!!

  134. I am so sorry Beth. But let's look at the positives, you got yourself to the doctor, you know what is wrong and now you can heal yourself so you can go kick butt in Boston!

  135. Dude. SUCK. And here I had my lungs prepared to cheer all the way from KS this weekend. I guess I still will for Adam. At least you still have enough other material (poop) to keep posting even if you're not running. I hope you heal up quick and can get back at it soon though.

  139. I'm so sorry Beth. Nothing anyone says will make it better. I am in the same boat. I went through that period of sadness (yes, tears) and then anger and finally acceptance. You are going to kick serious ass (again) once you're all better. Rest up Beth. Enjoy some reality TV and some good books. :) And eat some ice-cream.

  140. OMG! I'm sooooo sorry Beth! I know that there isn't much I can say to make you feel any better, but know that I can totally relate - been there, done that. Heal quickly - we have BOSTON to run!!!

  144. I wish I could say something to make it better. :(

  145. Oh no! I'm so sorry. You must be tough because if I had that type of fracture I'm pretty sure I would have been whining and crying about it more than you did before it was diagnosed.

    ReplyDelete
  146. I'm so sorry. :( I'd be so upset (furious, really) if that happened to me. I'm really impressed by how well you toughed it out up to the diagnosis.

    ReplyDelete
  147. I am sorry to read about your injury -- I can't say I know EXACTLY how you feel, but I have a pretty good idea.

Just take care of yourself and recover.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Ugh, soooo sorry, Beth! You are still totally awesome. Take care :-)

    ReplyDelete

  157. I'm late in catching up on my reader (blame it on Chicago!), but this SUCKS. BIG TIME. SUCKS.

That's all I can say. If it makes you feel better, my fiance fractured his foot 2 weeks before Chicago (which would have been his first marathon, instead he was stuck on a boot, spectating).

The good news? A fracture is not permanent, take care of it, and you'll be back in tip top shape in no time. Good thing you decided to get things checked instead of just ignoring it and pushing it through race day.

    *hugs*

    ReplyDelete
  158. Oh noes!!! How incredibly frustrating. Here look, get over this with a smooth and quick recovery, and ROCK the next one like it's goin outta style!
